Ross Castle & Kenmare Estate 1 Hour Jaunting Car Trip

Collection at Killarney Town Center and taken down Beech Road, entering Killarney National Park at St. Mary’s Cathedral passing Deenagh Gate Lodge (An 1834 Thatched Cottage; currently used as a little tea room). Turning left at the cottage we get a first glimpse of the McGillicuddy Reeks. We cross over Deenagh River and right down the River Walk. We then pass by the game wood on the right at the end of River Walk. We often see the famous Red Deer grazing there.

Our first view of the beautiful lakes of killarney comes up on our right; Lough Leane, the largest of the three Lakes Of Killarney. On our left the home of the former owner, John McShane, lies Killarney House. The next view is Brown Island & Killarney Golf Club. Continuing on we come to the Sandy Bottom where Fish would come to swim in older time. We will see lovely aghadoe on the top of the hill. Up the Hill we go and on our left and old Lime Kiln, and on our right, accross the lake we see Inisfallen Island with the ruins of the 6th century manastery at the Heart of the Island.

In front the Beautiful Ross Castle (Built in 1410 by O Donoghue Rossa) awaits in the distance . We get another great view just around the corner. We then have a 3/4 mile trek through natural woodland to the castle, where we stop for 15 minutes. You can walk up to see the castle and view from the rear of the castle accross the stunning lake. Facilities at the castle include rest-rooms and a coffee shop. Once back on board, we leave the National Park and go back via the Ross Road (3km) to Killarney. Your Jarvey (driver) will explain all the sites and give a good history of the Park throughout your carriage trip. Trip ends back at the starting point.
